Sri Lanka Schools Junior Karate Championship 2024

The Sri Lanka Schools’ Junior Karate Championship 2024 was held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th September 2024. Seven Ave Marians who obtained medals at the Western Province Schools’ Junior Karate Championship represented the school at this event. Sensei Charka Fernando coached the budding karate players who secured a gold, a silver and a bronze medal each at the National championship. Even though only the players under the age of thirteen years were eligible for the Junior Meet, senior players of the school karate team helped the little ones with their training to reach this achievement. Shannon C. Nanayakkara, won the Silver medal at the under 10 kata (level 3) event. Anuki C. Perera, won the Gold medal at the under 13 kumite (Level 3) event while Sheani U. S. S. de Silva won the Bronze medal at the under 12 kumite (Level 1) event. The Ave Maria team kata trio and K. K. Maria D. Fernando (Under12 - Kata- level 1) managed to secure their places among the best eight in their respective events. The principal and the academic staff of the school along with the teachers in charge of Ave Maria Karate team extended their heart felt congratulations towards all the players who excelled in this highly competitive sport. The school also wish to extend sincere gratitude towards Sensei Charka Fernando for his expertise and dedication.
