Celebrating a Legacy: A Heartfelt Farewell to Our Retiring Teachers at Ave Maria Convent
On November 20, 2024, Ave Maria Convent held a heartfelt ceremony of thanksgiving and appreciation to honor the commendable service and bid farewell to retiring teachers who have profoundly impacted the lives of countless students and colleagues alike. The retiring teachers, Mrs. Geethani Perera, Mrs. Chrishanthi Perera, Mrs. Sriyamali Nonis, Mrs. Sugandika Gunawardena, Mrs. Chandrika Senadeera, Mrs. Lakshmi Nettikumara, Mrs. Milani Peiris, Mrs. Dilhani Rodrigo, Mrs. Shashitha Fernando, Mrs. Ramya Selvaraja and Mrs. Thanuja Gajan. All the retiring teachers were recognized and honoured by name. Mrs. Geethani Perera was specially celebrated for her yeoman service of 40 years, as teacher and Deputy Prinicipal of the Covent, marking her remarkable contribution.
The programme commenced amidst the blessings of the Lord celebrated in a glorious mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Priya Jayamanne, National Director, Small Christian Community and the Parish Priest of Nayakakanda, who highlighted the immense value of gratitude and of giving back, which was beautifully woven into the sentiments of the day. The Prinicipal of the Covent, Rev. Sr. Priyangani Hathurusinghe also addressed the gathering, expressing her appreciation, and gratitude to the retiring teachers, who had dedicated their all to the school.
The atmosphere was filled with nostalgia as faculty and students shared stories and memories that highlighted the profound impact these educators have had on the school community and in their personal enrichment. Adding to the vibrancy of the event, dance, poetry and musical performances celebrated the retiring teachers. These creative tributes brought smiles and tears, capturing the essence of the bonds the teachers had forged, and their lasting service. At its close, Mrs. Geethani Perera and Mrs. Chrishanthi Perera, two of the retiring teachers expressed heartfelt thanks for the support and love from the community, echoing the sentiments of all, encouraging students to continue striving for excellence, and standing as a model of excellence for all teachers, present, and for those to come.
